Runner-Up Finish at Ka'anapali Classic Caps Fall Season for #MGolf

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Senior MJ Maguire recorded a career best tournament score and finished second overall helping lead the No. 32-ranked North Florida men's golf team to a second place finish at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
Maguire finished with a 54-hole total of 10-under par 203 including a final round 67 (-4). He finished tied for the medalist title, but lost in a playoff when Oregon's Aaron Wise recorded a birdie on the first extra hole. His final total marked the second lowest tournament score in program history.
As a team, UNF carded a three-round score of 9-under par 843, matching the third lowest total in program history. The Ospreys fired a final round 10-under par 274 equalling the best round of the day, but were unable to close the deficit behind No. 2-ranked Oregon.
"It was a great finish to the fall by the team today," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "MJ played really well and a few guys at the back end of the lineup stepped up and also played well down the stretch. It makes for nice way to head into the winter break. The team had a wonderful experience with this trip and hopefully learned a few things about playing in different elements."
Senior Joey Petronio joined Maguire in the Top 10, finishing in seventh at 4-under 209 after a final round 70 (-1). Junior Austin Padova matched Maguire's Sunday performance shooting a 4-under 67 en route to finishing tied for 21st at 215 (+2).
Junior Taylor Hancock posted a 1-under 70 in the final round, while redshirt Dillon Woods had a 1-over 72 to round out the Osprey lineup. Woods finished tied for 29th at 219 and Hancock tied for 39th at 221. Additionally, senior Parker Jones earned a tie for 27th (218) competing as an individual at the event.
The Ducks led wire-to-wire in earning the tournament title with a final score of 819 (-33). No. 48 Georgia finished behind UNF in third at 848 with Kansas (853) and No. 27 Clemson (857) rounding out the top five squads.
The Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic marked the conclusion of the fall season for North Florida. The Ospreys earned top five team finishes in four of five events including a pair of team championships.
North Florida will now take three months off from competition, next returning to tournament play on Feb. 2-3 in the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass.
