LAHAINA, Hawaii -- No. 32-ranked North Florida men's golf concludes its fall tournament schedule this weekend at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii at Ka'anapali Golf Club. Tournament action begins with a shotgun start Friday at 2 p.m. (9 a.m. Hawaiian time).
The Ospreys are coming off their second tournament championship of the year having claimed the title at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate on Oct. 27-28. The UNF senior duo of MJ Maguire and Joey Petronio have led the squad with both linksters sharing the team lead with stroke averages of 70.92. The pair have combined to record 15 rounds under par through four fall competitions.
"We are looking forward to finishing the fall on a special trip," said 10th-year head coach Scott Schroeder. "The guys have played well so far and we are hoping to keep it going at our final fall event. Having to travel this far will be a challenge but also a tremendous experience for the team. We did something similar for last year's NCAA Regional play and it could happen again this year so it is important to learn how to handle long flights and then competing. The program has never won three times during the fall so we are excited to see if we can play well enough to make some history."
Joining Maguire and Petronio in the lineup for the fall finale will be the junior duo of Taylor Hancock (72.83 avg.) and Austin Padova (73.75 avg.) along with redshirt freshman Dillon Woods (73.11 avg.). In addition, senior Parker Jones will be participating in the event as an individual.
The Ka'anapali Classic features a 13-team field highlighted by five teams currently ranked in Top 100 nationally. Second-ranked Oregon heads the field that also includes No. 27 Clemson, UNF, No. 48 Georgia, No. 69 Kansas, Hawaii, Gonzaga, CSU-Northridge, UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, Utah Valley and Bowling Green.
The three-day, 54-hole competition consists of 18 holes each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each round will be a shotgun start with rounds two and three slated to begin at 1 p.m. (8 a.m. Hawaiian). North Florida will be paired with Utah Valley and Bowling Green for round one, starting play on holes 13-16.
