JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida women's golf team wraps up its fall competition season with back-to-back tournaments beginning Friday at the LPGA Xavier Invitational at LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona, Fla.
The LPGA Xavier Invitational opens a stretch of six rounds of competition in five days for the Ospreys, who will conclude the span with the Courtyard Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
UNF will be playing at the LPGA Xavier Invitational for the third consecutive year having posted a pair of Top 10 finishes the first two seasons. The tournament is a three-day, 54-hole event featuring a field of 13 teams.
"Our focus in the next two tournaments is to start with a strong first round and put ourselves in a good position as we head into rounds two and three," said UNF head coach Joanne Berglund. "In our first two tournaments this year, we have let the nerves and pressure get to us right from the start and been very tentative on the course. Fortunately, we have followed up with solid rounds two and three but we need to be ready to compete from the start. I know if we put together a great first round that we will be able to keep the momentum throughout the tournament. We are playing a lot of competitive rounds in just a short period but as long as we take each day separately and not get ahead of ourselves the team should have no trouble staying competitive mentally and physically."
Freshman Meghan Bennett, the team's leader with a 76.33 stroke average, looks to build on her solid collegiate debut in the last outing. She will be joined on the travel squad by juniors Emelie Alpe (77.33), Belinda George (79.00) and Mary Dawson (79.67) along with sophomore Nathalie Nygren (76.50). Additionally, junior Kelly Aylwin (79.33) will be playing in the event as an individual.
The event will use a shotgun start on each day beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with the Ospreys paired alongside Daytona State and Morehead State on holes four through seven.
