ORLANDO, Fla. -- No. 47 ranked North Florida men's golf team continues its fall tournament schedule Sunday with first round action in the highly competitive Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.
The TCI is annually one of the most prestigious collegiate tournaments featuring a field filled with nationally ranked programs. The 2014 participant list includes current No. 1 Illinois and No. 2 Florida State along with eight other teams in the Top 50. Additionally, 14 of the 15 teams in the field are listed in the Top 100.
"We are looking forward to this event coming off of the win from our last event," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "The field at this event will be one of the best for the year and matches a field that would play in an NCAA Regional or the NCAA Championship. It is at a new course this year, so we will need to adjust quickly in the practice round and be ready to see what we can do starting Sunday. This is the start of three events in a short period of time so it should be a fun run to find out what we are made of."
The Osprey lineup for the TCI will be led by the senior duo of Joey Petronio and MJ Maguire. Petronio is coming off his second career medalist title and career low tournament total at Shoal Creek Invitational on Sept. 29-30, while Maguire enters the weekend ranked No. 67 individually in the latest rankings with a team best 71.67 stroke average. Juniors Taylor Hancock and Austin Padova along with redshirt freshman Dillon Woods fill out the remainder of the UNF scorecard.
UNF and the nation's top two squads will be joined at the TCI by No. 4 Baylor, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 12 Vanderbilt, No. 14 New Mexico, No. 17 California, No. 30 UNLV, No. 33 Georgia, No. 50 Arkansas, No. 55 Florida, No. 57 GRU Augusta, No. 99 UCF and Indiana.
The TCI is a three-day, 54-hole event contested on the par 72, 7,200-yard layout of Lake Nona CC. The Ospreys will be paired with Florida and Indiana in Sunday's opening round teeing off from hole No. 1 beginning at 9:40 a.m.
