ORLANDO, Fla. -- Playing the back nine of Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in a collective 9-under par on Sunday, the No. 47-ranked North Florida men's golf team climbed to fifth place on the leaderboard following round one action of the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational.

The Ospreys finished the opening round of the TCI at 10-under 278, marking the lowest team round of the season and best score since the second round of the Schenkel Invitational (278) last spring. UNF shot 1-under as a team on the front nine before blistering the back with a combined 11 birdies and an eagle.

"We got off to a bit of a slow start today but had a very good back nine," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "The course played pretty easy so it was good to see us take advantage of that on the back. We need to be ready to continue making smart decisions and playing solidly because the course will definitely get harder each day."

Senior Joey Petronio and junior Taylor Hancock both fired rounds of 3-under par 69 to pace the Osprey attack on Sunday. The duo finished the day tied for 16th.

Just one shot behind the team leaders, senior MJ Maguire and junior Austin Padova each posted rounds of 2-under par 70 to end the day tied for 27th. Redshirt freshman Dillon Woods filled out the UNF lineup shooting a 2-over par 74 (T53).

Tournament co-host and No. 7-ranked Texas Tech tops the team leaderboard after a 21-under par 267. No. 2-ranked Florida State is currently second at 270 with No. 12 Vanderbilt (271), No. 1 Illinois (276) and UNF rounding out the top five squads. TTU's Guillermo Pereira tops the individual medalist list after posting a bogey-free 9-under par 63.

The Tavistock Collegiate continues with second round play Monday on the par 72, 7,200-yard layout at Lake Nona CC. North Florida will play alongside Illinois and New Mexico and tee off from hole No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m.
