#WBB Starts Three-Game Homestand with USC Upstate on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – University of North Florida women's basketball begins its longest homestand of the season on Thursday night when the Ospreys welcome USC Upstate to UNF Arena. The game is the first of three-straight home games.

"We're excited to be back at home and in front of our fans this weekend," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "Both games are going to be very important in that we need to finish the first half of conference play on a positive note. USC Upstate has been a solid team that will battle 40 minutes. It is important that we when our home games in conference play. Our team is focused on what we have to do tomorrow to secure that victory."

In its last home game, UNF posted a 78-66 win over Lipscomb on Jan. 18. The Ospreys' 78 points are a season-best. Destinee Smith put up a career-high 23 points against the Lady Bisons and has tallied 20 points in two of her last three games.

Home court advantage has worked to the Ospreys' favor in 2013-14 with UNF heading into the weekend with a 5-2 record. UNF is all-time 195-109 and is just five wins away from securing its 200th UNF Arena win since the Ospreys made their UNF Arena debut on Jan. 16, 1993.

USC Upstate brings a three-game winning streak into Thursday night's game. During their winning streak, the Spartans have limited their opponents to 62 points twice and 64 points once. USC Upstate comes off a 72-64 home win over Kennesaw State on last Saturday behind Alex Stanford's 28 points. It was the third time this season a USC Upstate player had over 20 points in a game. Brittany Starling leads the team averaging 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

UNF holds a 13-10 advantage in the all-time series and won the last meeting 50-48 in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament at Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga., on Mar. 7, 2013. However, USC Upstate has won the last five regular season games.

Tip for Thursday night's game is set for 5:30 p.m. It is a double-header with UNF's men's basketball program.

Two ticket package options are available: season tickets for $35 (15 home dates) and Family 4 Pack for $105 (includes two adults and two youth tickets). Single game pricing is $6 Adult and $4 Youth 17-and-under, Senior Citizens 55+, UNF Faculty/Staff, and Military. Students with a valid Osprey1 Card and children 2-and-under are free. For doubleheaders, women's tickets are good for general admission in the west endzone for the men's game.**
