#WSOC Shuts Out Jaguars, 1-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – From 25 yards out left of the goal, senior forward Thea Linkfield placed the ball in the upper right corner which proved to be all the University of North Florida women's soccer team needed to grab a 1-0 victory over University of South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at Patton Park. The victory marked the 50th win for head coach Linda Hamilton.

"It was great coming out with a victory today, especially coming after a loss on Friday night," said Hamilton. "I was proud of how our team played. We played hard throughout the 90 minutes and we were able to grab the lead and protect it."

Down 1-0, the Jaguars were aggressive coming out of the half. A header from Lauren Allison just 24 seconds into the second half nearly knotted the score at 1-1, but junior keeper Megan Dorsey was able to make a great save.

Dorsey recorded her first shut out of the season and eighth of her career, recording seven saves on the afternoon. Melissa Drish had six saves for the Jaguars.

Offensively the Ospreys outshot the Jaguars 19-14. North Florida also led in corner kicks, 5-2. Alexis Bredeau, Heather Botelho, and Carolina Lencina each had three shots for the Ospreys. Lauren Allison led the attack for the Jaguars, tallying four shots on goal.

"I was very proud of how our team played," said Hamilton. "This is definitely great for our confidence coming into conference play."

The Ospreys are back in action on Friday, Sept. 27 when they hit the road to being Atlantic Sun Conference play at Stetson at 7:00 p.m.
