DELAND, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Stetson University in Friday night's conference opener. With the win, the Hatters tied the all-time series 5-5-0.

"I'm disappointed we were not able to come out with a victory tonight," said head coach Linda Hamilton. "I thought we played a good match and we fought hard."

The Ospreys started the match on the attack, owning the time of possession for majority of the half. Though North Florida had an early 5-2 lead in shots, the Hatters were able to grab the lead in the 27th minute when Kait Jones scored off a long through ball from Danielle Hurme and was able to slip pass the back line defenders. The Ospreys concluded the half with a 6-5 lead in shots, including a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks.

North Florida came out of the half looking to continue on the attack. Despite having multiple opportunities near the goal, the Ospreys were unable to capitalize. UNF finished the match with a 15-9 advantage on shots and a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Junior Keeper Megan Dorsey tallied four saves on the night, while her counterpart Victoria Troccoli recorded three to earn the shutout.

Sophomore midfielder Jill Holdsworth led the offensive attack with seven shots. Alyssa Welsh was able to get off four shots including two shots on goal for the Hatters.

"We hope to come out on Sunday and get some points," said Hamilton.

North Florida continues the road trip in Fort Meyers, Fla., as the Ospreys take on Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Â
