JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team heads south to play their first Atlantic Sun Conference matches this weekend at Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, respectively.
Â
The Ospreys split the past weekend, falling 2-0 to Furman on Friday evening and posting a 1-0 victory over South Alabama on Sunday. Senior forward Thea Linkfield found the back of the net from 25 yards, which proved to be all the Ospreys needed to grab the win over Jaguars. Junior keeper Megan Dorsey had 15 saves on the weekend, including her first shutout of the season.
Â
North Florida (3-5-2) looks to use their momentum coming into Friday night's (7 p.m.) match against Stetson (2-5-1). The Hatters are led by Alyssa Welsh, who has two goals on the season, and Amber Grose, who has tallied four assist and is tied for third in the A-Sun.
Â
In the last meeting, goals from Lauren Hopfensperger and Linkfield helped the Ospreys capture the 2-1 victory over the Hatters in Jacksonville on Oct.7, 2012. The Hatters finished 1-7-1 in conference play last season and missed the conference tournament.
Â
UNF will travel to Fort Meyers to take on FGCU (5-3-1) on Sunday at Noon. Last weekend, the Eagles dropped both matches to Memphis and UCF. Tabby Tindell leads the Eagles in goals with seven, which is second in the A-Sun.
Â
FGCU leads the all-time series against the Ospreys 5-1-1. Last season, the Ospreys used a pair of second-half goals from Carolina Lencina and Hopfensperger to grab a 2-0 victory over the Eagles at Hodges Stadium on Oct. 5, 2012. Â
