JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Furman on Friday night at Patton Park.
Â
"The early goal we gave up really hurt us," said head coach Linda Hamilton. "We need to work on capitalizing on our opportunities."
Â
Furman grabbed the early lead in the second minute on a goal from Paladins' leading scorer Stephanie DeVita. DeVita scored on a pass from Jamie Alexander after taking a touch pass from India Robinson.
Â
In the 13th minute, the Ospreys threatened to score the equalizer. Paladans' keeper Rose Hull rushed to a ball in the box, when Alexis Bredeau came rushing in and got a shot off but hit the right post on an open net.
Â
Hanna Stanifer was able to extend Furman's lead in the 70th minute on a header after taking a cross from Robinson.
Â
The Ospreys were outshot 20-17 and trailed 8-1 in corner kicks. Heather Botelho and Bredeau led the Ospreys with three shots a piece.
Â
Junior keeper Megan Dorsey tallied eight saves on the night. Hull recorded six saves to earn the shutout.
Â
"We look to continue to get better with each match we play," said Hamilton. "Having a tough nonconference schedule will prepare us for conference play."
Â
The Ospreys are back in action as they take on South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Patton Park.
