#WSOC to Conclude Nonconference Play at Home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team looks to remain unbeaten at home as they welcome Furman on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. to Patton Park.

Last weekend, the Ospreys (2-4-2) came out undefeated with a 10-1 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday night, followed by a 2-2 draw with Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

UNF scored 10 goals from eight different players in the victory over UAPB on Friday evening. Freshmen Kayla Aritt, Alexis Bredeau and Kendall Pollack each scored their first collegiate goal. After holding a slim lead at the half (2-1), the Ospreys' offense exploded in the second half, scoring eight unanswered goals.

Senior forward Thea Linkfield and Bredeau led the Ospreys with two goals apiece. The Ospreys tallied 48 shots, including 29 shots on goal. North Florida's defense only allowed two shots the entire night.

On Sunday afternoon, the Ospreys battled for 110 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw against Columbia. After being down 0-1, the Ospreys responded with a goal of their own in the 48th minute by Bredeau. The Lions would score again in the 66th minute but senior Keara Murphy was able to provide the Ospreys the equalizer in the 80th minute.

Despite the being outshot in the first half, the Ospreys came back and finished the match outshooting the Lions 23-16, led by Heather Botelho, Carolina Lencina and Bredeau with four shots each. Junior keeper Megan Dorsey recorded six saves on the afternoon.

Furman enters Friday night's match with a 3-2-1 record. Last weekend, the Paladins took down Mississippi State 4-0 on Friday night, and recorded a 1-1 draw against Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon in Starkville, Miss., to earn a share of the Bulldog Classic Title. Sophomore forward Stephanie DeVita leads the Paladins with four goals on the year. The Paladins are 3-0 against the Ospreys.

South Alabama, ranked 10th in the NSCAA/Continental Tire South Region Poll, comes into the weekend boasting a 7-1-1 record. Last weekend, the Jaguars shutout their opponents by a combined 13-0 score. USA has scored 36 goals this season and has only allowed eight goals by their opponents. The Jaguars are led by freshman forward Lauren Allison who has nine goals on the year. In their first and only meeting in 2006, the Ospreys beat the Jaguars 1-0.
