DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw on the road on Saturday night against Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla.
"It's always good to get a preseason match under your belt," head coach Linda Hamilton said after the match. "We were able to give everybody some minutes and now we can assess where we are. I think our girls played well."
The Ospreys finished the night with nine shots, including two from freshman Elyse Fontecchio.
Freshman goalkeeper Susie Ford recorded four saves to earn the shutout, while Embry-Riddle's Jen Grimes and Olivia Lynch combined to record three saves.
Both teams were tied with six shots a piece in the first half. Defense proved to be a key factor in the game as UNF had three shots on goal and Embry-Riddle had four.
With just four minutes remaining in regulation, the Ospreys threatened to score when a shot from Thea Linkfield went just right of the goal from a corner placed by junior midfielder Alexi Zaremba.
The North Florida women's soccer team kicks off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 23, when the Ospreys travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. A link to live stats will be available at UNFOspreys.com
