TAMPA, Fla. -- The No. 16/19 North Florida men's golf team plays in its final tune-up event for the postseason on Monday-Tuesday at the Gary Koch Invitational.
The Ospreys look to continue their strong spring season play having posted top three finishes in each of their four events including a team championship at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational and a runner-up showing in their last outing, the Furman Intercollegiate on Mar. 22-24.
UNF and sophomore Joey Petronio are the defending team and individual champions at the Koch Invitational.
"We are looking forward to returning to Tampa with an opportunity to defend our title," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "Our team really likes the course and the weather should be nice and warm which will put our team in a good frame of mind. The tournament field has lots of quality teams and that is great preparation for NCAA Regional play."
Senior Sean Dale, who is ranked 3rd nationally by Golfweek, leads the team with a 70.09 stroke average and Top 15 finishes in every event this spring. Fellow senior Kevin Phelan is ranked 17th and owns a 71.65 average highlighted by eight rounds under-par. Dale and Phelan could also both secure spots in the upcoming Palmer Cup competition with solid play at the Koch Invitational.
Joining the senior duo in the Osprey lineup for the event include Petronio and freshmen Austin Padova and Taylor Hancock.
The tournament is a two-day, 54-hole competition with 36 holes of play Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday. The 14-team field features seven teams ranked in the Top 50 including five Top 20 squads. Auburn and Kentucky cohost the event played on the par 72, 7,389-yard layout of Old Memorial Golf Club.
Following the Koch Invitational, North Florida will look to defend its Atlantic Sun Conference title on Apr. 21-23 in Braselton, Ga., before participating in a yet to be determined NCAA Regional site on May 16-18.
