JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's tennis team will conclude the home portion of its 2013 campaign this weekend, as it plays host to Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast in a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Ospreys will be returning to action for the first time in two weeks. In their last match, on March 23, UNF rolled to a speedy 4-0 win at USC Upstate to run its record to 10-4 on the season, including a 3-1 mark in A-Sun play.
Stetson, who UNF will host at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, enters the weekend with a 9-7 record in 2013, as well as a 4-2 record in A-Sun contests. The Hatters stumbled last weekend, dropping a pair of home matches to East Tennessee State (7-0) and USC Upstate (4-3).
Diana Bukajeva has compiled a 13-2 record for the Hatters this season, the best mark on the team, playing primarily at the No. 3 position.
The Ospreys will face Florida Gulf Coast in a 10 a.m. match on Sunday morning. The Eagles have compiled a 10-5 overall record, with an identical 4-2 record in conference play. In last season's match, at FGCU, UNF blanked the Eagles in a 7-0 decision.
A trio of FGCU players have tallied double-digit victories this year, led by Johanna Sterkel, who is 11-3 at the No. 3 and 4 positions.
Two Ospreys carry lengthy singles winning streaks into the weekend for UNF, as junior Simona Weymar (seven matches) and sophomore Marina Cunningham (six matches) will look to continue their winning ways against a pair of conference foes. Weymar and sophomore Rebeca Pereira also own a pristine 6-0 record at the No. 2 doubles position this season.
A brief ceremony to honor the team's seniors, Lorena Aviles and Melanie Aguirre, will precede the match against FGCU on Sunday. Admission to all UNF home tennis matches is free to the public, or follow along on Twitter at @OspreyWTEN.
