Ospreys Set To Tee Off in Defense of ASun Title

BRASELTON, Ga. -- The North Florida men's golf team looks to defend its Atlantic Sun Conference title beginning play Sunday in opening round action of the conference championship tournament on the Legends Course of Chateau Elan.
The Ospreys, currently ranked 17th (Golfstat)/ 18th (Golfweek), captured the program's second conference title last season with a three-day score of 875. The Atlantic Sun Championship is a three-day, 54-hole event scheduled for Sunday thru Tuesday.
This season UNF is led by a trio of linksters ranked among the nation's elite with senior Sean Dale listed No. 2, sophomore MJ Maguire No. 24/29 and senior Kevin Phelan No. 39/48. Dale has finished in the Top 15 in every event he's played this season and is a semifinalist for The Ben Hogan Award.
Joining Dale, Maguire and Phelan in the lineup for the Atlantic Sun Championship will be sophomore Joey Petronio and freshman Austin Padova.
"We are looking forward to trying to defend from last year," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We have been busy with school the last few weeks, so the guys are excited and anxious to get back on the course. This course lends itself to good scores so we need to get off to a good start."
Following the conference tournament, North Florida will continue postseason play May 16-18 in a yet to be determined NCAA Regional site.
