DeLAND, Fla. – For the first time in three-and-a-half weeks, University of North Florida plays away from the UNF Softball Complex when the Ospreys make the short trip to Stetson for a mid-week Atlantic Sun doubleheader on Wednesday.
It will be the first of two trips to Stetson and Patricia Wilson Field this season for the Ospreys, who also play a single game at Stetson in two weeks.
UNF brings a five-game winning streak into Wednesday's doubleheader and comes off a three-game series sweep of Mercer last weekend. That span of five victories has led to several milestones for the Ospreys. Last Wednesday, UNF picked up its 30th win of season with a 4-2 victory over Bethune-Cookman, marking the first time since 2008 in which the Ospreys had a 30-win season. Over the weekend, the three-game series sweep of Mercer pushed UNF's Atlantic Sun record to 11-4, marking the first time since the 2009 season in which UNF has posted double-digits wins against conference opponents.
Danica Mandarano brings a pair of hitting and scoring streaks into Wednesday. Mandarano's had at least one hit and one run in each of UNF's last six games. Earlier this season, she had a 13-game hitting streak from Feb. 23-Mar. 9.
Meanwhile, Kaylie Wallace has the Atlantic Sun's top ERA (1.54) and most number of wins (17). Her ERA ranks 31st nationally, while her 17 wins are 28th in the nation in the latest round of NCAA statistics that were released on Apr. 15.
In five games last week, Stetson posted a 4-1 record that included a mid-week doubleheader sweep at Jacksonville last Wednesday and then took 2-of-3 games in the weekend series with Kennesaw State. As a result, Jessica Griffin and Meredith Owen swept the A-Sun's weekly awards for the Hatters, who are in the middle of an eight-game homestand. Griffin was tabbed Player of the Week and Owen was the conference's Pitcher of the Week. Meanwhile, Chrissy Morello has a team-best .321 batting average and is 18-for-22 on stolen bases. Morello's 18 stolen bases is third the A-Sun.
UNF leads the all-time series with Stetson 15-11. Last season's doubleheader in DeLand was split between the two teams. UNF captured the first game 1-0 on a Marissa Thomas solo home run in the fifth inning, but Stetson came back for a 7-0 victory in Game Two.
First pitch to Wednesday's doubleheader is set for 5 p.m., from Patricia Watson Field.
