Ospreys Open A-Sun Play Against Bisons

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida baseball team begins Atlantic Sun Conference play on the road against Lipscomb at Ken Dugan Field in Nashville, Tenn. The Ospreys and Bisons open play with a game on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (ET) (6:00 p.m. – CT). The series continues with a game at 3:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday before concluding on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
The weekend series will be the conference opener for both teams. North Florida enters the weekend with a 16-7 overall record, while Lipscomb is 8-14. The Ospreys are 5-4 on the road this year, while the Bisons are 6-10 at Dugan Field.
The Ospreys are 2-5 all-time in Atlantic Sun Conference openers, including a 0-2 mark under head coach Smoke Laval. The Ospreys' third-year head coach dropped an 8-4 decision to Florida Gulf Coast in his first season in 2011 at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. In 2012, the Ospreys fell on the road to FGCU, 2-0, in Fort Meyers, Fla.
North Florida enters the series 1-1 on the week, playing a pair of games on the road. The Ospreys opened the week in Gainesville, Fla. against Florida, dropping a 9-4 decision. UNF rebounded with a 5-2 victory against Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Ospreys lead the all-time series 13-8, including a 5-4 mark in Nashville. UNF is 4-2 against LU under Laval, including a 2-1 mark at Dugan Field. The past two years under Laval, the Ospreys have dropped the opening game of the series, but won the next two contests.
Scouting the Opposition:
Lipscomb enters the weekend with an 8-14 overall record. The weekend series against the Ospreys will be the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for the Bisons. Last season, Lipscomb finished the conference season in seventh, just ahead of North Florida who finished in eighth.
Last time out: Scoring in each of the last four innings, the Lipscomb baseball team took a 5-4 extra innings decision over homestanding Western Kentucky on Wednesday night at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green.
