JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- The North Florida sand volleyball team posted a perfect 3-0 record in team play Saturday en route to claiming the team championship at the 2013 UNF Sand Invitational @ Jax Beach.

The Ospreys (4-1) opened tournament play Saturday morning with a 5-0 sweep over FAU followed by a second unblemished 5-0 decision over Webber International. UNF then clinched the title with a hard fought 3-2 win over rival Jacksonville.

A trio of UNF pairs went undefeated in the day's action including No. 2 Carolyn Jenkins/Cari Whitmire, No. 4 Cameron McGuire/Paige Pridgeon and No. 5 Britt Claessens/Julie Trembley.

In the opening match with FAU, all five Osprey pairs secured straight set wins to get the day started. UNF also earned straight set wins against the Warriors, who only had four competing pairs.

Against JU, North Florida jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as McGuire/Pridgeon and Claessens/Trembley each recorded straight set victories. The Dolphins rallied with straight set win at No. 3 then saw their No. 1 pair (Nyquist/Strausbaugh) outlast the Osprey duo of Dagnija Medina/Anna Budinska in a three-set battle to even the match score.

Jenkins/Whitmire won their first set 21-18 but slipped 19-21 in set two forcing a decisive final set. The Osprey tandem used a five point surge midway through the set to grab the momentum and closed out the match with a 15-10 win.

Tournament action at the UNF Sand Invitational moves to flighted pairs play on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the sand courts located adjacent to the Jacksonville Beach Pier. The event is free and open to the public.
