Golf Returns to Action at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 15 North Florida men's golf team returns to action this weekend in the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Ospreys look to continue their strong spring campaign that includes a runner-up and team championship in two events. UNF posted a record-setting victory in their last outing on Feb. 24-26, the Hayt Collegiate Invitational.
The Schenkel field is comprised of 15 teams highlighted by seven teams ranked in the nation's Top 50 by Golfweek. In addition to UNF, the other ranked teams include No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Texas, No. 11 Florida, No. 33 North Texas, No. 38 Vanderbilt, No. 46 UCF along with Kentucky, Ole Miss, UAB, Georgia Southern, Notre Dame, College of Charleston, Maryland and Virginia.
Senior Kevin Phelan, who ranks sixth in the nation in the latest Golfweek list and claimed his first individual medalist title at the Hayt Invitational, leads the Osprey lineup that also includes No. 35-ranked MJ Maguire. Senior Sean Dale, who has a pair of top five finishes this spring, has not played enough rounds to be ranked but could debut in the nation's Top 10 with a good showing in the Schenkel.
The remainder of the UNF lineup for the Schenkel includes sophomore Joey Petronio and freshman Joe Stepnes. The Ospreys begin play Friday at 10:30 a.m. off of tee No. 1. UNF will be paired with Alabama and Vanderbilt in the opening round of the three-day event.
