Men's Tennis Hosts Pair of Conference Foes
3/13/2013 6:28:00 PM | Men's Tennis
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will kick off it's Atlantic Sun Conference schedule this weekend, as it welcomes Kennesaw State and Mercer to UNF Tennis Complex for matches on Thursday, March 14 and Saturday, March 16, respectively.
The Ospreys, who are riding a four-match winning streak that has carried them to a 6-6 record in 2013, are just days removed from Tuesday's 5-2 home victory over No. 74 South Alabama. It was UNF's third victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
Kennesaw State, who UNF will face on Thursday at 2 p.m., will enter this weekend in the midst of a five-match losing streak that has dropped their 2013 record to 2-7. Most recently, the Owls fell at home to East Carolina, 6-1.
Maksim Yorsh has compiled a 3-4 singles record for the Owls this year, playing across four different positions. In last year's match, UNF traveled to KSU and left with a 6-1 victory.
Mercer will come to UNF Tennis Complex on Saturday at 2 p.m. having won their previous match, a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern. However, the Bears currently sit at 2-9 on the season and own a winless 0-7 mark on the road. Last year's match in Macon, Ga., was also a 6-1 win for the Ospreys.
UNF has been tough to beat at home, as the Ospreys have compiled a 4-1 record in the confines of UNF Tennis Complex. Senior Julien Belair and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek have had the hot hands for UNF recently, as each has compiled a four-match singles winning streak at a variety of positions.
The Ospreys doubles pairs have also been playing at a high level, as UNF has won five straight doubles points and has not dropped a doubles match since a loss at No. 3 against No. 20 Baylor on February 21. UNF captured the other two doubles matches in that contest.
Admission to all UNF home tennis matches are free to the public.
