Ospreys Finish Opening Event with Split

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – For the second consecutive day, the North Florida sand volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Beach'N Boards Fest falling 3-2 to Georgia State before edging Stetson 3-2.

The Ospreys (2-2) earned wins at the No. 4 and 5 pairs positions against the Panthers. The pair of Julie Trembley/Britt Claessens continued with undefeated play with a 21-9, 21-12 decision at No. 4 while Emily Strack teamed with Anna Wagner for a straight set, 21-12, 21-5 victory. UNF had chances to claim the match as both the No. 2 and 3 pairs played three set matches. GSU earned a straight set victory at the No. 1 spot.

In their tournament finale, North Florida's wins came from the No. 3, 4 and 5 pairs. Wagner and Strack posted a 2-1 (21-9, 12-21, 15-13) win at No. 3 while No. 4 tandem Cameron McGuire/Paige Pridgeon also collected a 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 15-12) decision. The Trembley/Claessens pairing finished the weekend with an unblemished record after sweeping a 21-17, 21-15 win at the No. 5 spot.

In addition to tournament play, the UNF sand volleyball team took part in some community service spending time to played numerous rows of sea oates, to help prevent erosion of the sand dunes and protect the sea turtle nesting grounds.

North Florida next turns its attention to its home event, the UNF Sand Invitational @ Jax Beach, on Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 16-17) at Jacksonville Beach courts near the pier.
