BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior Megan David's run in the fourth inning was the difference maker as University of North Florida softball concluded the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament with a 1-0 win over Connecticut on Sunday morning at the FAU Softball Stadium.
A Marissa Thomas single started the fourth inning. David came in to pinch run for Thomas and quickly made her way around the bases, scoring the game's only run as Brittany Hendrix sent a two-out hit up the middle.
The Ospreys had another strong day in the pitching circle and on the defense. Kaylie Wallace struck out five and allowed three hits in 7.0 innings en route to her second complete-game shutout of the season.
Meanwhile, the Osprey defense stranded four Huskies on the bases and did not allow UConn to advance any further than second base throughout the entire game.
Kiki Saveriano had the loss after allowing one run off six hits in 6.0 innings. Saveriano also struck out six.
Six Ospreys each registered one hit in the game, while three different Huskies were 1-for-3 from the plate.
UNF returns to its home field on Wednesday with a mid-week doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 4 p.m., from the UNF Softball Complex. Admission to all UNF softball games is free.
