WINDERMERE, Fla. -- The North Florida men's golf team returns to competition beginning play Sunday in the highly competitive Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
The Ospreys are part of a 15-team tournament field that includes some of the nation's top squads including defending national champion Alabama, California, LSU and Texas. The event is scheduled for 54 holes over three days at the prestigious Isleworth Country Club.
"This is one of the best events in college golf with a great facility and field," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We have not played our best so far this year, so this is a great opportunity for us to play against some great players and see how we stack up. We have a younger squad than we've had in recent years and are still trying to develop individually and as a group. Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes in earlier events and become the type of team we are capable of being. We really enjoy playing in this event because its not far from home and allows us to get some family and friends out to support us."
The UNF lineup is led by junior All-American MJ Maguire, who leads the squad with a 72.33 average this season. Joining Maguire at the Isleworth Invitational is junior Joey Petronio, sophomores Austin Padova and Taylor Hancock and redshirt freshman Osten Waite.
The Ospreys open play Sunday at 8:50 a.m., and will be paired with Florida State and LSU.
