Padova Matches Career Best in leading #MGOLF at Isleworth Invitational

WINDERMERE, Fla. -- North Florida sophomore golfer Austin Padova matched a career best, firing a 71 (-1) in opening round play Sunday at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
Padova's under-par performance placed him in a tie for 16th and paced the Ospreys to a round one 296 team total. UNF ended the day tied for 12th with TCU in a nationally competitive field.
Juniors Joey Petronio (T39) and MJ Maguire (T48) posted rounds of 74 and 75, respectively, for North Florida. Reshirt freshman Osten Waite carded a career low 76 (T56) while sophomore Taylor Hancock shot a 79 (T69) in rounding out the Osprey lineup.
Alabama, the defending national champion, owns a two-shot lead in the team competition after posting an 8-under 280. Tournament co-host UCF is currently second at 282 followed by California (284), Illinois (284), UNLV (286), Arkansas (287), Vanderbilt (287), LSU (288), Texas (288), Florida State (292), GRU Augusta (293), UNF/TCU, New Mexico (297) and Texas Tech (301).
Bama's Trey Mullinax and Cal's Joel Stalter share the opening round medalist lead after firing rounds of 6-under 66.
Tournament action at Isleworth continues with second round play Monday. North Florida, who will be paired with New Mexico and TTU, is set to begin day two at 9:15 a.m., on the 10th hole of prestigious Isleworth Country Club.
