Maguire Pacing Osprey Golf at Carpet Capital

ROCKY FACE, Ga. – University of North Florida sophomore MJ Maguire fired a four-under 68 Saturday to lead the Osprey golf team in the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club.
Maguire climbed into a tie for fourth with his strong performance boasting a two-day total of 138 (-6). As a team, UNF heads into the final round tied with Auburn in eighth place at 579 following a second round 288.
UNF freshman Joe Stepnes, who is making his collegiate debut in the event, collected his first career round under par with a two-under 70 and is tied for 26th at 145 (+1). Sophomore Joe Petronio is tied for 37th at 147 (+3) after shooting a 75 on day two.
Senior Kevin Phelan and redshirt freshman Taylor Hancock each carded rounds of 75 to round out the Osprey lineup. Phelan is tied for 45th at 149 (+5) while Hancock is 70th at 154 (+10).
Defending national champion Texas made a big move on Saturday posting a 266 to claim the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 559. Round one leader Georgia is second at 562 followed by LSU (573), Alabama (573), Clemson (573), Wake Forest (574), Chattanooga (578), UNF and Auburn (579), North Carolina (584), Tennessee (589), Kennesaw State (589), South Carolina (592), Georgia Tech (592) and MTSU (607).
The Longhorn's Brandon Stone leads the individual medalist competition at 132 (-12), just one shot in front of UGA's T.J. Mitchell at 133 (-11).
Tournament action at the Carpet Capital concludes with final round action Sunday. North Florida begins play from the first tee at 8 a.m. in a group with Chattanooga and Auburn. Fans can follow all the action online at www. golfstat.com.
