Osprey Golf Finishes 6th at Shoal Creek

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of North Florida men's golf team climbed one spot on the final day finishing in sixth place Tuesday at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell at historic Shoal Creek Country Club.
The Ospreys carded a final round 293 for a 54-hole score of 880 (+16) over the par 72, 7,234 yard layout at Shoal Creek. Sophomore MJ Maguire was the squad's best finisher earning a tie for 5th at 214 (-2) after finishing play with a one-over 73 while senior Kevin Phelan was the team's top performer on Tuesday firing a one-under 71 to finish tied for 11th at 217 (+1).
True freshman Austin Padova finished tied for 25th at 224 (+8) in his collegiate debut including a career-best final round one-over 73. Sophomore Joey Petronio was tied for 29th at 225 (+9) while senior Pete Kellerman was 53rd at 233 (+17) to round out the UNF lineup. Playing as an individual, junior Taylor Johnson was tied for 55th at 238 (+22).
LSU shot a three-round 864 to claim the team championship by five strokes over Houston (869). North Texas finished third at 873 followed by tournament host UAB (876), Memphis (877), UNF, Tulsa (881), Kennesaw State (893), Southern Mississippi (909), Dartmouth (913) and Southeastern Louisiana (917).
North Florida has a quick turn around as the Ospreys return to the links Oct. 5-7 at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga.
