MACON, Ga. – The University of North Florida men's golf team continues its fall tournament schedule beginning Friday at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship hosted by Mercer.
The three-day, 54-hole event is held on the par 72, 7,175-yard layout of The Brickyard at Riverside. Last season, UNF earned a third-place finish with an 868 total.
The Ospreys look to build on their sixth place finish recently completed Shoal Creek Invitational. Sophomore MJ Maguire, who has been the team's top performer in the first two events, again heads up the UNF lineup.
Maguire will be joined by fellow sophomore Joey Petronio along with freshmen Austin Padova, Joe Stepnes and Taylor Hancock. Senior Joey Marino is competing as an individual in the event while senior Kevin Phelan will be away representing Ireland at the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey (Oct. 4-7).
“The Brickyard is always a great event with a tremendous atmosphere for a college tournament,” said North Florida head coach Scott Schroeder. “Mercer does a wonderful job of hosting and this year's field will be a solid challenge and test for our young squad.”
The 2012 Brickyard field includes defending champion Georgia Tech and host Mercer as well as Air Force, Augusta State, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Colorado State, Georgia, Georgia State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Princeton, South Florida and Virginia Tech.
