“First of all we are proud and excited to be heading to the NCAA Regional,” said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. “We never take for granted the work it takes to get to this point. We are looking forward to playing in Athens, especially since it is a pretty easy trip up there. For us to earn the No. 2 seed is truly an honor for this program and a reflection on how hard our team competed all season. While the high seeding is great, everybody starts at the same point when we tee it up next weekend.”
The NCAA Golf Championship opens with a round of six regional sites – Athens (Ga.), Greensboro (N.C.), Bowling Green (Ky.), Ann Arbor (Mich.), Norman (Okla.) and Stanford (Calif.). A pool of 81 teams and 45 individual players not on qualifying teams compete to advance to the championship round.
Joining the Ospreys at the Athens Regional will be top-seed Alabama with No. 3 seed New Mexico, No. 4 seed Georgia and Iowa rounding out the top five seeds. The remainder of the regional field includes East Carolina, Long Beach State, Augusta State, Wake Forest, Houston, UT-Arlington, UNC Wilmington and Loyola (Md.).
The top five finishers at each regional advance to the NCAA Championship round May 29-June 3 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 12-ranked North Florida golf team makes its third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance after earning a spot in the Athens (Ga.) Regional on May 17-19 as announced Monday night by the NCAA selection committee.
The Ospreys, who earned the No. 2 seed at the event slated for the University of Georgia Golf Course, have now qualified for Regional play eight times at the Division I level. This season UNF collected five tournament titles including three of their final four events highlighted by its second Atlantic Sun Conference championship.
