
Late Innings Prove Costly for Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team and Stetson were tied 2-2 heading into the final two innings, but eight unanswered runs gave the Hatters a 10-2 victory over the Ospreys on Friday night at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium.
Offensively, the Ospreys scored a pair of runs on 10 hits. North Florida left 12 runners on base, including seven in scoring position. Four different UNF players had multiple hits on the night – Alex Bacon, Tyler Marincov, Ryan Roberson and Joe Wielbruda. Marincov belted his eighth home run of the season, a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Michael Wesner scored a run, while Wielbruda added a RBI.
On the mound, Michael Renner took the loss. The junior threw 7.1 innings allowing just three earned runs. He walked on batter and struck out two while allowing 11 hits. Chandler Jagodzinski and Evan Stermer combined for the next inning. The seniors allowed two hits apiece with Jagodzinski surrendering two runs and Stermer being charged with three. Nick Allbritton tossed the final 0.2 innings allowing two runs, but only one earned run, striking out two.
Stetson was the first team to score a run, breaking the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. With two outs, the Hatters used a single, followed by a double to score a run and take an early 1-0 lead.
North Florida responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, Marincov drove a 1-2 pitch over the left center field fence to knot the score at 1-1. The home run was the eighth of the season for Marincov and the 13th of his career.
The Hatters regained the lead with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles gave the Hats a pair of base runners. Stetson used a line drive to deep center field to advance the lead runner and a sacrifice fly to center field to retake the lead, 2-1.
The Ospreys tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Wesner led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Drew Weeks. With two outs, Wielbruda singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Wesner from second and tying the score at 2-2.
Stetson scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead for the third time in the game. The Hatters started the rally with a one-out double to left center field. Following a walk, Stetson scored the first run of the inning with a RBI double to right field. The Ospreys intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases and set up a force out at any base. The next batter plated the lead runner with a sacrifice fly to right field and a single up the middle scored the final run of the inning, giving the visitors a 5-2 advantage.
The Hatters broke the game open in the top of the ninth inning. Stetson batted around in the inning, scoring five runs on five hits and a UNF error to take control of the game.
