
Women's Tennis Clinches Top Seed in A-Sun Tourney with 6-1 Win Over Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – University of North Florida women's tennis posted a 6-1 win at Kennesaw State on Friday afternoon, allowing the Ospreys to secure the No. 1 seed in next week's 2012 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championships.
All three of UNF's doubles duos extended their undefeated streaks against Atlantic Sun opponents. No. 73 Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles shutout Virginie Stein and Alexandra Apostu 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Simona Weymar and Rebeca Pereira took an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Vera Shkundina and Therese Lagerkvist. Danielle Day and Melanie Aguirre cruised to an 8-2 win over Jana Hueckinghaus and Tamara Plocher at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Berkenbrock took a 6-3, 6-2 win against Shkundina on the No. 1 court, while Aviles had a 6-3, 6-3 win over Apostu at No. 2 singles. Weymar held on for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 No. 4 singles win over Hueckinghaus, while Aguirre took a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory against Lagerkvist at No. 5 singles. Marina Cunningham cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win against Plocher at No. 6 singles.
Kennesaw State's only point came as Stein took a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) win over Day on the No. 3 court.
UNF concludes the regular season on Saturday at Mercer. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
