DeLAND, Fla. – Two nationally ranked teams will clash on Saturday when No. 56 University of North Florida men's tennis takes on No. 74 Stetson in a 2 p.m., Atlantic Sun match.
The Ospreys are winners of eight of their last nine and ride a three-match winning streak into Saturday. Most recently, UNF picked up a 6-1 win at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday night. UNF capture two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. In singles, Moritz Buerchner brings a nine-match winning streak in at No. 1 singles as he improved to 14-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Florida Gulf Coast's Tianyu Bao. Norbert Nemcsek and Daniel Sotomarino also added their fourth-straight No. 1 doubles victory against the Eagles, downing Matthew Rock and Lance Lvovsky 8-4 on Thursday night.
Stetson has been ranked in the Campbell/ITA National Rankings since the Mar. 6 poll. The Hatters were ranked as high as No. 59, but enter this weekend at No. 74. Since appearing in the Mar. 6 poll, Stetson is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun. The Hatters have won their last two, which includes a 4-3 win at USC Upstate and a 6-1 victory against Jacksonville. Maksim Levanovich, ranked No. 113 nationally in singles, has been dominant at No. 1 singles for the Hatters, going 13-1 overall and 4-0 against conference opponents. Levanovich also brings a nine-match winning streak into Saturday.
Since UNF became part of the Atlantic Sun in the 2006 season, both the Ospreys and Hatters have won three matches apiece.
