FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the third time this week, University of North Florida women's tennis powered its way a 7-0 sweep as the Ospreys blanked Florida Gulf Coast Thursday afternoon.
UNF captured all three doubles matches to begin the day. It was the fifth-consecutive match in which the Ospreys have taken all the doubles matches.
No. 78 Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles posted an 8-5 No. 1 doubles win over Jen Evans and Gyanna Mandic. Both of UNF's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams cruised to 8-1 wins. Simona Weymar and Rebeca Pereira down Morgan Bechtel and Marina Diez at No. 2, while Danielle Day and Melanie Aguirre topped Bettina Botha and Sarah Means at No. 3.
All six of UNF's singles wins were in two sets. Berkenbrock blanked Means 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Day cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 versus Evans. Weymar posted a 6-3, 6-2 No. 3 singles win against Bechtel and Aguirre held to defeat Diez 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4. Marina Cunningham defeated Botha 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and Pereira added a 6-3, 6-1 win against Mandic at No. 6.
UNF returns to the courts on Saturday at Stetson. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
