Ospreys Sweep Mercer on Day Two of Sand Classic

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. –The North Florida sand volleyball team swept Atlantic Sun Conference foe Mercer, 5-0, Saturday in second day action of the College of Charleston Sand Classic at the Creekside Facility.
The Ospreys improved to 2-1 in dual matches during the team's inaugural season with the victory. UNF had its second scheduled match on Saturday afternoon postponed until Sunday due to inclement weather.
Playing together for the second straight day at the No. 1 position, UNF's duo of Emily Strack and Dagnija Medina outdueled Mercer's top pair of Jamie Duffy and Cassie Roy for a 2-0 (25-23/21-17) straight set win. North Florida's No. 2 pairing of Carolyn Jenkins and Julie Trembley also claimed a straight set 2-0 (21-9/21-18) victory over the Bears' Jennifer Katona and Monica Sanchez.
At the No. 3 spot, the Osprey duo of Britt Claessens and Paige Pridgeon dropped their opening set before rallying for a 2-1 (11-21/21-17/15-11) win over MU's Caroine Carlton and Emily Rochefort.
UNF got straight set victories from both their No. 4 and No. 5 pairings as Allison Shirley and Nicole Baran topped Madison Petsos and Zoe Becton, 2-0 (21-9/21-12) while the tandem of Madison Hatcher and Kelsey Smith outlasted Charlayna Braxton and Lizzie Knapper, 2-0 (22-20/21-19)
North Florida concludes play at the C of C Sand Classic with a pair of Sunday matches against UAB (9 a.m.) and College of Charleston (4 p.m.)
