Ospreys Fall to Pepperdine in Sand Volleyball Tournament

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. –The North Florida sand volleyball team opened play Friday at the College of Charleston Sand Classic with a tough 5-0 loss to Pepperdine at the Creekside Facility
On the first of three days in the CofC tournament, the Ospreys (1-1) battled their west coast opponents hard but were unable to extend their winning streak against the Waves
“I thought we began to get comfortable and play much better in the second set of all five matches,” said UNF head coach Steve Loeswick. “Unfortunately, we couldn't get things turned around quickly enough. I was very proud of how all the teams battled and played together. Our thoughts were also split as we had some team members not on the trip on our minds. We are definitely excited about getting back out there tomorrow.”
Emily Strack and Dagnija Medina, paired as UNF's No. 1 team, fell to the Pepperdine duo of Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross 2-0 (21-13/21-13). North Florida's No. 2 pairing of Carolyn Jenkins and Julie Trembley dropped a 2-0 (21-9/21-18) decision to the tandem of Lilla Frederick and Kim Hill.
North Florida's No. 3 team of Allison Shirley and Britt Claessens were topped in straight sets (21-12/21-15) by PU's Stevi Robinson and Kelley Larsen while the Osprey's No. 4 tandem of Nicole Baran and Paige Pridgeon were swept 2-0 (21-7, 21-13) by Victoria Adelhelm and Kellie Woolever.
The No. 5 pairing pitted UNF's Kelsey Smith and Marija Pantovic against Pepperdine's Emily Cook and Michaela Christaansen with the Wave duo winning 2-0 (21-7, 21-10).
North Florida continues play at the C of C Sand Classic with a pair of matches Saturday against Mercer (11 a.m.) and UAB (4 p.m.). The Ospreys conclude tournament play Sunday at 4 p.m. versus the host team.
