UNF Finishes 7th at Schenkel Golf Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. --In a tournament field highlighted by six Top 30 squads, No. 15-ranked North Florida improved one spot Sunday in the final round finishing seventh at the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Ospreys finished with a tournament total 862 (-2) after closing with a 291 (+3) on the last day. Junior Kevin Phelan completed his solid performance carding his third consecutive under-par round with a one-under 71. Phelan finished in 12th place with a 54-hole total of 211 (-5).
Senior Kevin Aylwin also posted an under-par total on the final day matching Phelan with a 71 (-1) and finishing tied for 27th at even-par 216.
Freshmen MJ Maguire and Joey Petronio tied for 37th at 219 (+3) while junior Sean Dale rounded out the UNF lineup in a tie for 42nd (220). Playing as an individual, junior Pete Kellerman finished 20th with a three-round tally of 214 (-2).
No. 7 Alabama dominated the 14-team field claiming the team title with an 817 total, 22 strokes in front of runner-up No. 26 Virginia (839). No. 2 Auburn and No. 24 Florida tied for third at 847 followed by No. 29 UAB (855), Ole Miss (858), UNF, South Carolina (864), Kentucky (870), Vanderbilt (875), Georgia Southern (878), Notre Dame (882), Minnesota (884) and North Carolina State (885).
Virginia's Ben Kohles shot a 198 (-18) en route to the individual medalist title. Kohles topped the field by three strokes with Bama boasting four of the top five finishers.
North Florida plays its final regular season event Apr. 7-8 at the Gary Koch Invitational in Tampa, Fla. The Atlantic Sun Tournament is slated for Apr. 16-18 in Braselton, Ga.
