
Women's Tennis Defeats USC Upstate 6-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis picked up a 6-1 win over USC Upstate on Friday at the UNF Tennis Complex to start the Atlantic Sun Conference portion of its schedule.
“Today was a good start to our conference season,” said head coach Audra Cohen. “The girls took care of business and are excited for another challenge tomorrow.”
UNF swept all three doubles matches. Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Talia Rojas and Isabel von Stryk. Simona Weymar and Rebeca Pereira recorded an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles against Julie Bell and Hannah Al-Sakati. At No. 3 doubles, Melanie Aguierre and Danielle Day swept Lauren Byars and Maria Tonani 8-0.
The Ospreys then took five of the six singles matches. Aviles defeated von Stryk 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Day won 6-3, 6-0 against Bell at No. 2. Weymar had a 6-1, 6-1 win over Al-Sakati at No. 4 and Marina Cunningham picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Tonani at the No. 5 position. Pereira swept Byars 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
UNF concludes its conference-opening weekend on Saturday when it hosts ETSU at 2 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
