
Men's Tennis Takes Down Second-Straight Ranked Opponent

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second time in as many days, the University of North Florida men's tennis team defeated a nationally-ranked team 4-3 at the UNF Tennis Complex. This time, the Ospreys upset UNC Wilmington, who is No. 33 in the latest ITA rankings that were released on Tuesday. On Monday, UNF defeated then-No. 42 South Alabama.
Once again, Leonardo Nahar had the match decider. With the team score tied at 3-3, Nahar outlasted Kaue Pereira 7-6 (4), 0-6, 7-6 (4) at No. 5 singles to clinch the deciding point for the Ospreys.
UNF found itself trailing 1-0 after the Seahawks swept all three doubles matches. Chris Cooprider and Kosta Blank, who are 70th-nationally in doubles, defeated Daniel Sotomarino and Norbert Nemcsek at No. 1. Julien Belair and Beauregard Treyz dropped a 9-7 No. 2 doubles match to Michael Reilly and Sam Williams. Moritz Buerchner and Pedro Davisson fell to Rafael Aita and Pedro Mol 9-8 (4).
The Ospreys bounced back in singles play to capture four of the six matches. In addition to Nahar's win, Buerchner posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cooprider at No. 1 singles, while Sotomarino defeated Blank 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Treyz added a 6-4, 6-3 win over Williams at No. 6.
UNC Wilmington's two singles points came at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots. Aita, who is No. 77 nationally, defeated Nemcsek 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Mol defeated Davisson 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
UNF is back in action this Friday when the Ospreys open Atlantic Sun Conference play against USC Upstate at the UNF Tennis Complex.
