NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of North Florida women's cross country team has earned 2011 Division I All-Academic Cross Country Status, as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
“I think this honor, in combination with their athletic honors over the last two years, shows how special this group of young ladies is,” Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said. “They set a standard for both athletics and academics that will be very hard for future teams to match.”
UNF posted a 3.41 cumulative GPA for the season and was one of six teams from the Atlantic Sun to earn the honor in 2011, joining Belmont, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer and USC Upstate.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
The Ospreys took ninth at the NCAA South Regional this fall, after grabbing runner-up honors at the Atlantic Sun Championships.
