
Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 at No. 70 College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – University of North Florida women's tennis concluded its two-match road trip with a 6-1 loss at No. 70 College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center.
Simona Weymar had UNF's only point on the day, winning 6-0, 6-4 over Olivia McMillan at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles cruised to an 8-1 win over Irene Viana and Samantha Maddox at No. 1. However, the Cougars won the other two doubles matches to get the doubles point. At No. 2, Jenny Falcone and Kelly Kambourelis defeated Melanie Aguirre and Danielle Day 8-1. Then Caroline Newman and Christin Newman pulled out a 9-8 (8-6) win over Rebeca Pereira and Weymar at No. 3.
In singles play, Berkenbrock won her first set at No.1 against Christin Newman 6-1, but lost the final two 6-3, 10-8. Kambourelis defeated Aviles 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Day dropped a 7-6, 7-5 match to Caroline Newman at No. 3. Pereira fell at No. 4 to Maddox 6-0, 6-2 and Cunningham lost 6-2, 6-2 to Falcone at No. 5.
UNF has two weeks until its next match when the Ospreys host Charleston Southern in their home-opener on Feb. 26. Match time is set for Noon.
