JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team fell 7-0 to NCAA Division II's No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic 7-0 on a chilly Sunday at the UNF Tennis Complex.
“AASU was talented and tough today,” said head coach Adam Schaechterle. “They were the better team. We learned as a team that we need to execute our opportunities at this level. We let too many chances to finish slip away.”
The decision for the doubles point came down to No. 3 doubles as Armstrong Atlantic State took No. 1 doubles and UNF claimed the No. 2 spot. After a tough battle that went to a tiebreaker, Armstrong Atlantic State's Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla defeated Mortiz Buerchner and Leonardo Nahar 9-8 (7-2).
In the other two doubles matches, Armstrong Atlantic State's Mikk Irodja and Georgi Rumenov defeated Beauregard Treyz and Julien Belair 8-1 at No. 1. Norbert Nemcsek and Daniel Sotomarino came out on top at No. 2 doubles, downing Daniel Regan and Pedro Scocuglia 8-5.
The Ospreys lost all six singles matches. Rumenov defeated Buerchner 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, while Nemcsek lost a 6-4, 6-0 match to Bonet – Division II's No. 2 nationally ranked player – at No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, after falling 6-3 to Irdoja in the first set, Sotomarino rallied to take the second 6-3, but then fell 6-3 in the third set.
