TAMPA, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball returns to the road this weekend with a cross-state trip to USF for a 1 p.m., game on Saturday at the Sun Dome.
“USF is a BIG EAST opponent that has several really talented players that will press and be physical,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “This is going to be another challenging game. We have shown improvement every game and see this has another opportunity to help prepare us for out Atlantic Sun Conference schedule.”
UNF comes off two-straight home wins at UNF Arena. The Ospreys came back against Vermont for a 64-61 win last Saturday and then held one for a 56-55 victory against Bethune-Cookman in front of 1,593 fans during Elementary School Day on Wednesday. Raneisha Lamar had the team's first double-double of the season against the Lady Wildcats, tallying 15 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Octavia Langston blocked four Bethune-Cookman shots and is the only active UNF guard with four blocks in a single game in her career.
USF is off to a hot start to the 2012-13 season with a 5-0 record. The Bulls have scored 60-or-more points in all of their games, while limiting opponents to less than 60 points in four of their five games. USF enters Saturday coming off a 77-29 win at UNC Asheville on Wednesday. Saturday's game will also be the first of three straight games against Atlantic Sun opponents for USF, who also opened the year with a 70-48 win against Stetson. Andres Smith leads the team with 18.4 ppg, while Andrell Smith and Inga Orekhova have 14.2 and 11.4 ppg, respectively.
This is the seventh meeting between UNF and USF. USF holds a 6-0 record in the series, which has all taken place in Tampa.
