Men’s Soccer Drops Opening A-Sun Match

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to East Tennessee State on Friday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn. The Ospreys will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon against USC Upstate in a match slated for 1:00 p.m.
The match was a tale of two halves. The first half was nearly even with ETSU scoring one goal on six shots. UNF had three shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. In the second half, the home team took 11 shots compared to just three by the Ospreys. Seven shots in the second half by the Bucs were on goal.
Defensively, Kyle Nasta finished the match with eight saves, but took the loss, surrendering four goals. The true freshman 53 saves in seven matches for a 7.57 saves per match average.
Offensively, three different Ospreys registered shots on the night, but were unable to push a goal across. Mauricio Valderruten notched three shots on the night, while Camilo Garcia added a pair. Teddy Mulamba registered a shot. One of Garcia's shots came on goal.
East Tennessee State broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute. Maximilian Muemken sent a long pass to the left side to Colin Pugh who crossed the ball in to David Geno who finished with the one-touch goal. The goal in the 24th minute was the only of the first half as the two teams played even the final 21 minutes of the first period.
In the second half, the Buccaneers netted three goals to take command of the match and seal the victory. Franck Doumbe s scored in the 54th minute, while Pugh netted a goal in the 65th minute. The final goal came in the 78th minute from Theo Yang.
