MACON, Ga. – The North Florida basketball team opens a four-game road stretch Saturday against Mercer at 4:30 p.m. in the University Center. The game will be carried on the internet on ESPN3.com.
The Ospreys (9-11, 3-4 ASun) look to rebound from a tough one-point loss to ETSU on Monday and also halt their current three-game skid. Mercer brings a 13-7 (5-2) record into the contest having won five of their last six games.
Saturday's game marks the 13th all-time meeting between UNF and Mercer on the hardwood. The Bears own a 10-2 advantage in the all-time series after the squad's split their regular season meetings a year ago with the road team earning the wins. North Florida boasted a 3-1 record in the University Center last season after reaching the title game of the A-Sun Championship Tournament hosted by Mercer.
A quartet of Ospreys is averaging double digits led by Parker Smith at 12.0 points per game. Jerron Granberry averages 10.6 ppg followed by Travis Wallace (10.3 ppg) and Andy Diaz (10.2 ppg). Wallace, who recorded his first career double-double with 11 pts,12 rebs against ETSU, also leads the team with 5.5 rebounds a game. Jimmy Williams tops the team in assists at 3.2 per game.
The UNF-Mercer game showcases some of the league's top three-point shooters as the Bears' Justin Cecil leads the A-Sun with 50 treys on the year followed closely by the Osprey duo of Smith and Granberry, each with 47.
Fans can follow all the exciting action live on the radio on WBOB 600 AM, The Flagship Station of the UNF Sports Network, as well as online via the radio network link at www.wbobradio.com.
