No. 74 Men's Tennis Falls in Season Opener at No. 44 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 74 University of North Florida men's tennis dropped its season-opening match on Saturday, falling 7-0 at No. 44 Florida State at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
 
The day began with doubles. Beauregard Treyz and Julien Belair fell to Jordan Kelly-Houston and Blake Davis at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Daniel Sotomarino and Norbert Nemscek dropped an 8-4 match to Anderson Reed and Dominic Cotrone, who are the Southeast Region's 10th-ranked doubles team. Moritz Buerchner and Leonardo Nahar lost to Andres Bucaro and Benjamin Lock, 8-5.
 
Both Buerchner and Nahar went to three-sets in their singles matches. At No. 1 singles, Buerchner, who is ranked ninth regionally, battled back after falling to Kelly-Houston in the first set to take the second and force a third set. However, Kelly-Houston, who is No. 12 in the region, took the third set and defeated Buerchner 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Nahar beat Jason Zafiros, the 19th-ranked regional player, in the first set, but dropped the second and third as Zafiros won No. 5 singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Also in singles play, Davis defeated Sotomarino 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Bucaro upended Nemcsek 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot. A tie-breaker was needed for the first set between Belair and Cristian Gonzalez Mendez at No. 4 singles. Gonzalez  Mendez won the tie-breaker in order to take the first set 7-6 (5) and won the second 6-2. Graham Edgar fell 6-4, 6-2 to Reed at No. 6 singles.
 
UNF plays its first home match of the season on Monday when the Ospreys welcome No. 71 Radford to the UNF Tennis Center. The match is schedule to begin at 10 a.m.
