JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida basketball team closes opens a brief two-game home stand Saturday at 7 p.m. against Atlantic Sun Conference foe USC Upstate at UNF Arena. The UNF-Upstate women's basketball game precedes the contest at 4:30 p.m. Both games are being presented by Dunn Wellness.
The Ospreys (9-9, 3-2 ASun) look to rebound following a disappointing loss Monday night at Stetson. Upstate brings in a 9-8 overall mark (3-2 ASun) having lost three of their last four contests. North Florida is 7-1 at home this season while the Spartans are 3-6 on the road.
Saturday's game marks the 16th all-time meeting between UNF and USC Upstate on the hardwood. The Spartans hold a slim 8-7 edge in the all-time series, but the Ospreys own a current three-game win streak. The pair has split their previous eight meetings at UNF Arena.
A quartet of Ospreys is averaging double digits led by Parker Smith at 11.7 points per game. Jerron Granberry averages 10.8 ppg followed by Andy Diaz (10.2 ppg) and Travis Wallace (10.1 ppg). Wallace, who has posted double figures in three straight, also tops the team with 5.3 rebounds a game. Will Wilson and Jimmy Williams share the team lead for assists with 3.2 apg each.
The UNF-Upstate game pits the current Atlantic Sun Player and Newcomer of the Week against each other as the Spartans' Torrey Craig, who leads the conference in scoring at 17.9 ppg, and UNF's Wallace earned the honors this week, respectively.
