FIU Edges Men’s Soccer, 2-1

MIAMI, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team was edged in the final match of a five-match road swing by in-state opponent FIU, falling to the Panthers, 2-1, at FIU Soccer Stadium. The Ospreys dropped to 1-5-0 overall, while the Panthers improved to 3-2-2 on the season.
North Florida trailed 2-0 in the first half, but rallied to score a goal in the 48th minute to cut the deficit in half. The Ospreys were unable to complete the rally and dropped one-goal decision.
Offensively, the Ospreys recorded seven shots, including five shots on goal. Freshman Oscar Castillo made his only shot of the match count as the rookie netted his first collegiate goal. Sophomore Josh Ciambella led the team with a pair of shots, including a shot on goal.
Defensively, freshman Federico Bertele took the loss. The freshman recorded five saves on the night in 90 minutes of work between the posts.
FIU was the first team to score, netting a goal in the 29th minute of the match. FIU's Lucas Di Croce scored the first goal of the match off an assist by Quentin Albrecht to put the hosts in front 1-0.
The Panthers went ahead 2-0 thanks to Di Croce's second goal of the match. Chris Lamarre had the assist on the goal, which was scored just before intermission (39th minute).
The Ospreys responded with an early goal in the second half of the match. In the 48th minute of the match, UNF used Castillo's first goal of the season to trim the margin to just one goal.
North Florida had chances to net the tying goal, but was thwarted by FIU defense. The Panthers' goalkeeper finished the night with four saves.
The University of North Florida returns home on Sunday afternoon as the Ospreys take on Florida Atlanta in a match starting at 4 p.m.
