
Men's Soccer Historic Season Concludes In NCAA First Round At North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Redshirt senior forward Luc Granitur recorded a brace and a 90th-minute equalizer before North Florida Men's Soccer ultimately concluded its historic season in a 2-2 (6-5) penalty kick shootout defeat at North Carolina in a NCAA First Round match at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Thursday night.Â

It marked the second career brace for Granitur.

North Florida concludes it historic season with the third NCAA Championship appearance in program history and a 12-5-2 record. With the 12 wins, North Florida tied the most wins of any division in program history and the most in Division-I era history.

Granitur, who started his collegiate career at North Carolina, netted the initial goal of the match in the 42nd minute. Junior defender Brian McManus Jr. perfectly placed a pass from right inside midfield on the ground and into the box for Granitur, who sent a shot past the Tar Heels' goalkeeper into the lower left corner of the net. North Florida had a pair of goals called back after review in the match.Â

North Carolina netted the equalizer in the 70th minute and then commanded a 2-1 lead with another goal in the 88th minute.Â

In the final moments of regulation, sophomore defender Rafa Rios played the ball into the 18-yard frame, which found the foot of Granitur, who sent a strike that went off the top bar and into the back of the net in the 90th minute.Â

After each team defended the final third in the two 10-minute overtime periods, the match moved on to penalty kicks.Â

Each team netted its initial five penalty kick attempts before the eventual final margin was reached.Â

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Luciano Natoli recorded four saves in 110 minutes in the frame.Â
