Game One Box Score ::: Game Two Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team was swept by crosstown-rival Jacksonville on Wednesday evening at the JU Softball Complex in this year's edition of the SunTrust River City Rumble “Battle of the Barrel”.
The Dolphins shutout the Ospreys in game one, 8-0, in five innings before taking game two with a score of 6-1. After the day, North Florida falls to 24-31 overall and 8-12 in the conference, while Jacksonville improves to 38-14 and 16-2 in the league.
The Ospreys have, unfortunately, already been eliminated from the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and therefore have wrapped up its 2011 campaign.
GAME ONE
In game one, Jacksonville took down the North Florida squad, 8-0, in five innings behind two three-run frames in the third and fifth.
Jacksonville first got on the board in the second inning, plating two runs via walks to take a 2-0 lead through two frames.
In the third inning, the Dolphins loaded the bases with no outs, eventually scoring three runs to extend the lead to 5-0. Two innings and three runs later, Jacksonville earned the five-inning victory, 8-0, enforcing the run-rule.
In a five-inning complete-game effort to get the win, Jacksonville's Sarah Sigrest allowed just one hit in the shutout while walking two and striking out four batters. The Ospreys' freshman Cortney Radke (22-19) picked up the loss, working 4.1 innings in which she allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits, five walks and three strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Game two brought much of the same from the first contest, with Jacksonville defeating North Florida 6-1 after the Dolphins jumped out to a 6-0 lead through four innings.
After Jacksonville started the game with hot bats, plating three runs in the first inning, the Dolphins ensued to cross three more runs in the fourth to jump out to a 6-0 lead.
North Florida was able to hold off the run-rule in game two, however, and plated its lone run of the series in the sixth inning thanks to back-to-back doubles. Freshman Danica Mandarano led off the sixth frame with a double, followed by a double by freshman Mariah Reynolds which drove in the RBI.
The Dolphins' Olivia Kline (15-6) earned the win after working five-innings, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while fanning four. North Florida freshman Cortney Radke (22-20) again picked up the loss in which she allowed six earned runs on eight hits and five walks while fanning just two. Radke worked a six-inning complete game.
