
Track Set to Host Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the third consecutive season, the University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams will play host to the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will take place at Hodges Stadium, April 15-16, on the North Florida campus.
Action gets underway from the Hodges Stadium at 9 a.m. (ET) on Friday with day one of the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon at 9:30 a.m. Field events will begin on Friday at 3:30 p.m., while running events are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the multi-events get started at 9 a.m. with the decathlon and 10 a.m. for the heptathlon. Field events are slated to begin at 3 p.m., while running events will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the last event scheduled for 8:45 p.m.
North Florida's women currently have four conference-leading marks heading into the weekend, and 12 marks ranking in the top three in events within the league. The Ospreys that lead the A-Sun are freshman Brianna Frazier (200m/400m), junior Ecaterina Gheorghiu (3,000m steeplechase) and junior Christina King (pole vault).
At last year's conference championship, the women finished third as a team for the third straight year with 119 points. The squad had two champions – both of which graduated – while nine earned All-A-Sun honors, including the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
On the women's side, Jacksonville is the five-time defending champion, claiming the 2010 title with a 22.5-point margin over second-place Kennesaw State, 247-221.5.
North Florida's men currently have three conference-leading marks heading into the weekend, and seven marks ranking in the top three in events within the league. The Ospreys that lead the A-Sun are sophomore Cameron Dickerson (800m), senior Will Pearce (1,500m) and freshman David Shepherd (pole vault).
At last year's conference championship, the men finished seventh as a team with 22 points. The squad had two All-A-Sun honors, including the 4x400 meter relay team. Post was the other honoree, finishing third in the 800 meters.
As for the men, Kennesaw State is the defending champion, claiming the 2010 title with a 41-point margin over second-place East Tennessee State, 269-228.
