
Women’s Tennis to Host Mercer and KSU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team is set to host a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches, beginning with Mercer on Friday, March 18 at 3 p.m. On Saturday, March 19, the Ospreys will host Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Both matches are set for the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
UNF (7-3) is coming off a 4-3 win over non-conference opponent, Buffalo. The Ospreys claimed the doubles point against the Bulls early. Danielle Day, Victoria Krook and Simona Weymar claimed wins in singles action to help the Ospreys secure the win.
With the win, Day improves to an 8-2 record in singles on the season while she and doubles' partner Melanie Aguirre have posted an 8-2 record in doubles play. Weymar is 9-1 on the season while Krook has tallied a 6-3 mark. Aguirre and Aline Berkenbrock are 5-5 and 3-3, respectively.
Mercer (2-9) fell to Butler, 5-2 in the Bears' last outing. Aurelie de Montjou and Lucie Payrat secured points for Mercer. Last season, the Ospreys secured a 7-0 win over Mercer. The Bears finished the season ranked eighth in the A-Sun.
Kennesaw State (13-3) fell to Stetson, 5-2 in the team's previous match. Alexandra Apostu and Morgan Carney picked up points for the Owls.
Second team all-conference selection, Vera Shkundina and all-freshman team honoree Therese Lagerkvist return from last season's team. UNF claimed a 6-1 win over the Owls last season. The Owls finished seventh in the A-Sun last season.
Following the weekend's matches, the Ospreys will travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face Lipscomb and Belmont, March 25-26.
